Plant Growth: Jogging the Cell Cycle with JAG
نویسنده
چکیده
In yeast, cell growth and division are coordinated by size checkpoints in the cell cycle. Recent work suggests that a similar mechanism acts in plant meristems to limit cell-size variation.

JAGGED Controls Growth Anisotropy and Coordination between Cell Size and Cell Cycle during Plant Organogenesis
BACKGROUND In all multicellular organisms, the links between patterning genes, cell growth, cell cycle, cell size homeostasis, and organ growth are poorly understood, partly due to the difficulty of dynamic, 3D analysis of cell behavior in growing organs. A crucial step in plant organogenesis is the emergence of organ primordia from the apical meristems. Here, we combined quantitative, 3D analy...
متن کاملArabidopsis genes AS1, AS2, and JAG negatively regulate boundary-specifying genes to promote sepal and petal development.
Boundary formation is crucial for organ development in multicellular eukaryotes. In higher plants, boundaries that separate the organ primordia from their surroundings have relatively low rates of cell proliferation. This cellular feature is regulated by the actions of certain boundary-specifying genes, whose ectopic expression in organs can cause inhibition of organ growth. Here, we show that ...
متن کاملNUBBIN and JAGGED define stamen and carpel shape in Arabidopsis.
Differential growth of tissues during lateral organ development is essential for producing variation in shape and size. Previous studies have identified JAGGED (JAG), a gene that encodes a putative C2H2 zinc-finger transcription factor, as a key regulator of shape that promotes growth in lateral organs. Although JAG expression is detected in all floral organs, loss-of-function jag alleles have ...
